Accurate Fecal Parasite Testing for Livestock and Horses

Farmer Analytics provides professional fecal parasite testing with a focus on accurate counts, clear reporting, and practical interpretation.

Our goal is to give you reliable data so you can better understand parasite pressure and monitor patterns over time.

What Fecal Testing Tells you

Fecal egg counts (FECs) measure the number of parasite eggs present in a sample.

These results can help you:

  • Understand parasite shedding levels

  • Monitor trends across seasons or management changes

  • Evaluate response to deworming over time

Fecal egg counts are one piece of the bigger picture and are most useful when considered alongside animal health, management practices, and veterinary input.

Testing options

Not sure which test to choose? Most livestock and equine samples are best suited for a quantitative fecal egg count (Modified McMaster). Additional testing options are available based on species and situation.

FEC-MCM - Quantitative Fecal Egg Count - Modified McMaster

Routine quantitative fecal egg count used to assess parasite burden, guide strategic deworming decisions, and monitor parasite control programs.

Recommended for: sheep, goats, horses, and cattle

Not recommended for: camelids, avian species, or swine

Volume pricing (per sample):

  • 1–4 samples: $20

  • 5–9 samples: $18

  • 10+ samples: $15

FEC-HS - Quantitative Fecal Egg Count - High Sensitivity

High-sensitivity quantitative fecal egg count for species that lower egg shedding is expected. The laboratory selects the most appropriate method (Modified Wisconsin or Modified Stoll) based on species and parasites of concern.

Recommended for:

  • Alpacas and llamas (camelids)

  • Poultry and other avian species

  • Swine (pigs)

  • Dogs and cats when quantitative results are requested

May be requested for any species when low egg shedding is expected.

Pricing (per sample): $30

QUAL-SCR - Qualitative Fecal Parasite Screening

Qualitative fecal parasite screening for presence/absence of common gastrointestinal parasites. The laboratory selects the most appropriate flotation method (sugar or zinc sulfate) based on species and parasites of concern.

Recommended for: Dogs and Cats

Acceptable for: All species, including livestock, camelids, avian species, and exotic species, when presence/absence screening is the primary goal.

Pricing (per sample): $22

BAER - Baermann Lungworm Test

Baermann testing is recommended when lungworm or larval parasites are suspected and is not a routine screening test.

Requires extended processing time.

Pricing (per sample): $25

FECRT - Fecal Egg Count Reduction Test

Fecal Egg Count Reduction Testing (FECRT) evaluates dewormer efficacy using paired pre- and post-treatment quantitative fecal egg counts (Modified McMaster or High-Sensitivity FEC). This test is used to assess treatment effectiveness and detect potential anthelmintic resistance.

Includes:

  • One pre-treatment quantitative fecal egg count

  • One post-treatment quantitative fecal egg count

  • Percent egg count reduction calculation and interpretation

Pricing (per animal):

  • $35 — Species tested using Modified McMaster FEC
    (sheep, goats, horses, cattle)

  • $60 — Species requiring High-Sensitivity FEC
(alpacas, llamas, other low egg–shedding species)
